Three free days, then $9.99 once: why no subscription

CaloRec is $9.99 once, after three free days. No subscription, no account. How the trial works, what stays free, and why the price is a line, not a wall.

A subscription is a relationship. The app needs you to come back, so it needs to know when you left, so it needs to watch. For a calorie ledger that promises nothing leaves your phone, that is a contradiction. So CaloRec charges once.

The shape of it

  • Three free days. They start at your first saved entry, not at install, and they are counted by days, closed by the 9:30 “Close the day?” ritual. A Saturday install that first logs on Tuesday still gets three full days.
  • Then $9.99, once. On the App Store or Google Play, through the store’s own purchase sheet. CaloRec never sees your card or your account.
  • Family Sharing on. One purchase covers the household.

What stays free, forever

The rule is simple enough to say in a breath: creating is paid, browsing is free.

ActionAfter an unpaid trial
Log a meal by voice or camera$9.99, once
Import a walk or run from your watch$9.99, once
Change your plan$9.99, once
Today’s last balanceFree
Every past dayFree
Week card and sharingFree
Export your ledgerFree

Your history is never locked, blurred or held hostage. If you stop at day three, the app looks paused, not broken, and the ledger is still yours to read and export.

The price is a line, not a wall

You will have seen “$9.99, once” four times before any purchase sheet appears, each time as a line of information in the app’s ordinary voice:

  1. On the store listing: 3 free days. Then $9.99, once. No subscription, no account.
  2. On first launch, above the mic: 3 free days. Then $9.99, once. Your history is always free.
  3. As a small pill on Today: Day 1 of 3 free, Day 2 of 3 free, Last free day.
  4. At the close of day three: That’s your three free days. Tomorrow, logging is $9.99, once. Your history stays free either way. With two chips: Buy now / Tomorrow.

From day four, tapping the mic or the camera opens the store’s sheet directly. No CaloRec screen in between, one tap instead of two. If you decline, the mic shows a quiet “$9.99 to log” label and that is the end of it. No reminders, no countdown, no popup, ever.

What this costs us

Without a server there is no way to stop a reinstall or a clock change from resetting the trial. We accept that. Preventing it would mean an account, and an account would mean the one thing the app exists not to have.

Questions this answers

When does the three-day trial start?

At your first saved entry, not when you install. If you install on Saturday and first log on Tuesday, you still get three full days.

What happens after the trial if I don't pay?

The app keeps working for everything that looks at the past: today's last balance, every previous day, the week card, export. Logging a new meal, importing a walk or changing your plan opens the store's purchase sheet, once, when you tap.

Is the purchase shared with my family?

Yes. Family Sharing is on for the purchase on both the App Store and Google Play, so one payment covers the household.

Why no subscription?

A subscription needs reasons to keep you: notifications, engagement, data. CaloRec keeps no data and sends at most two quiet notifications a day. A one-time price is the only model that matches that.
