# CaloRec > A calorie ledger you talk to. Hold to talk, say what you ate, and CaloRec writes the number. No account, nothing leaves your phone. 3 free days, then $9.99 once. ## Key facts - CaloRec is a calorie ledger for iPhone, Apple Watch, Android and Wear OS, made by PeregrineX. - You hold a button and say what you ate; speech recognition (OpenAI's Whisper) and understanding (Google's Gemma) run on the phone. - No account, no login, no server. The app contacts only the App Store or Google Play, for the purchase and to install its two on-device models. - Calorie figures come from a bundled nutrition table built from USDA FoodData Central, the Canadian Nutrient File, the UK's CoFID and the Swiss Food Composition Database; the on-device model never produces a calorie number. - Net balance = food in − active burn (walks, workouts, runs). Resting metabolism is never counted. - Price: 3 free days. Then $9.99, once. No subscription. After an unpaid trial, logging is paid and browsing history is free forever. - Devices: iOS, iPhone 15 Pro or later (8 GB of memory), and Apple Watch. Android, Android 13+ phones with 8 GB of memory (Galaxy S23 and Pixel 7 class or newer), and Wear OS. - At most two local notifications a day; no countdowns, no red, no streaks, no popups after a decline. ## Pages - [Home](https://calorec.app/): what it is, how it works, the price, questions people ask - [Journal](https://calorec.app/journal/): notes on calories, portions and plans, published most days - [Privacy policy](https://calorec.app/privacy.html) - [RSS](https://calorec.app/rss.xml) - [Full text of every post](https://calorec.app/llms-full.txt) ## Journal posts - [Three free days, then $9.99 once: why no subscription](https://calorec.app/journal/three-free-days-then-9-99-once/): CaloRec is $9.99 once, after three free days. No subscription, no account. How the trial works, what stays free, and why the price is a line, not a wall. - [What “about 780” means: from a sentence to a number](https://calorec.app/journal/what-about-780-means/): Say 'two eggs, buttered toast and a coffee' and CaloRec answers with a number. The path that sentence takes, and why the model never invents a calorie. - [Why CaloRec never counts your resting metabolism](https://calorec.app/journal/why-calorec-never-counts-your-resting-metabolism/): Most calorie apps add the calories your body burns at rest, then subtract them again. CaloRec counts only active burn, and the number is more honest for it.
